"These are our people," is the way Cindy introduced us. Her big smile present in the early hour on a Lanikai morning, our cousin was introducing us to her neighbors out for a walk. Pete and I were parked on Cindy and Bryan's front lawn, living from the Subaru. We'd just tumbled out of the hatch and into the public domain.
Unless you've been there, it's not easy to feel what it was like. Cindy was one of the few people who could love us and include us without hesitation.
The lucky fish wind sock now gracing this blog, Vardo for Two, continues ... , is from Cindy. She mailed it to us in the first year or two of life in the golden wagon. We've put the fish out in auspicious positions to catch the wind, giving us an indicator of how the environment changed or stayed the same, wherever we have been.
Over the years, Cindy's lucky fish has been a keen signal and a loving reminder of the value of people who stick with you.
I put this photo up to remember Cindy, and realize the tattered fish may need to be replaced; or the wind may inspire me to make a creative patch. But, it makes no never mind. The season has shifted, Dandelions brighten the fields, we are here, the fish still catches the elements. We notice. With each sighting of that colorful nylon wind catcher we remember a special woman and her kindness. From our place here on the Prairie Front I can see the fish flying toward the vardo on a southerly breeze.
Mahalo nui dear Cindy! We see your Light, and catch your drift:)
