Multi-tasking: side jobs and finding time to read

The three resident hens have found their way into the hearts and hands of the Prairie Front Community. Someone comes to check on their food and water supply once a day and in return that person is rewarded with the eggs laid on that day.

Along with that daily attention those girls get into conversation with us when we pass by or walk to and from other activities nearby. One of those activities is one that involves pulling up the handy green plastic lawn chair after opening the door to the hens' house.

Chicken Watch. These are wild chickens ... they love nothing better than to be in free-range mode. BUT. The large flying birds have spotted them in their grazing mode. Eagle and Hawk have got their numbers.

That's where the multi-tasking comes in. Pete has taken to sitting with the girls once or twice a day and particularly during the late hour before putting them to bed in the roost. It helps to be with them (they enjoy company) as they forage watching them and being keen to the big shadows of the hungry hunters in the sky.

The green lawn chair is available to visitors and Tilth Folk interested in chicken watch or another place to sit and read a little... try it out.

You'll need to be savvy and agile in your chicken wrangling moves once they're out. With a little practice you and the girls get into a funky groove to get them back inside. Stop by and ask Pete to show you how he does it or maybe you've already got your own moves:)
